Welcome to Miami

Hello from the Fontainebleau!

As a college student in Miami, you could say life is pretty good. From the suburban feel of Coral Gables, to the adrenaline vibe of Brickell, to the glamorous sights of South Beach, Miami has an immense amount to offer.  It seems every week presents me with a new opportunity, and this weekend is no different, as I was able to take a mini vacay at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach while my parents were in town. If you've had the pleasure of staying here, then you know it's quite an impressive place, and the views truly are unreal.

So, since I've now lived in this city for almost two years, I thought I'd post a bit about Miami style.  First, let me tell you, coming from a bit of a more conservative city (Atlanta), I was definitely experiencing culture shock when I first arrived. Miami as a city is notorious for its neon/art-deco/flashy style. But, my school is a whole different story, as it attracts students from all over the world, bringing together every style you could possibly imagine. At first, I tried to just fit in and make my conservative high school wardrobe pull off some strange mix of boho-meets-euro-meets-slutty can guess how that turned out. But, as I settled in and became more comfortable with myself, I learned not to conform, but to instead use all the different styles around me as influences rather than examples to copy. Although I'm still working on it, I like to think I've come a long way since my awkward freshman stage!
